La Ruffiana
After attending Jennifers’ lecture about Commedia dell Arte one of the participants Marion, a woman in her eighties, was so inspired by the craft and skill, that she commissioned Jennifer to research and create a new character. Using Marions’ own face as the base for the design, the result was a leather mask of “la Ruffiana” the village crone, gossip and busy body. Masks for women in the commedia dell Arte are very rare and la Ruffiana was the exception. The mask was then donated by Marion to the Murwillumbah Regional Art Gallery and is now part of the permanent collection.

Ned Kelly Series
Due to a lack of government and local council funding, the Byron Bay Public Library had to be inventive with their fundraising. With the release of Peter Carey’s book “Ned Kelly” came a great idea for an auction event. Jennifer created this series of twelve paper maché Ned Kelly masks that were individually decorated with themes reflecting the life and death of this Australian icon and included news clippings, recreated photographs and sampled text. The auction of the masks raised over $2000.
